Here is the Ultimate Way to Finding Your Purpose…
Purpose; is a big word. Many of us struggle to find our purpose. We all see many people that are struggling every day trying to live their lives. Most of us are unsure what they are after. As a matter of fact, many people are just playing the life game, having no real dream or passion about something. They are just playing and living in the system.
Is it a bad thing? — Being a part of a system.
Not really. But, we all need to do something in life that we can call happiness at the end of the day. The purpose of life is happiness. If you are not living your life being happy, then I don’t know what you are after. If you think about everything that you are doing. Going to work, getting married, having friends, traveling, learning, investing, earning money, buying more stuff, fighting over things, etc. Everything in life is based on the end result of happiness.
You need to find your purpose. I don’t care how often you say that you don’t need a purpose to be happy. The end result of purpose is happiness. You want to live happily. You need something that makes you get day after day. If that thing is not there, then you are not living. You are dead.
What is Purpose?
A purpose is a reason for something to happen or about to happen.
A purpose can vary from learning a craft to helping others. There is no limit for something to be called purpose. You can define your own purpose that nobody else shares the same purpose with you — although that can be very rare.
Many people have similar purposes. There are many people to share value, helping others, raising kids, teaching students, cooking, traveling, writing, and many more.
Can I have Multiple Purposes?
Yes and no. You can have a single purpose in life, and the rest of the things you believe are other purposes are just the path towards the main purpose.
How Can I Find My Purpose?
You ask yourself one question. What makes you happy?
If you can answer this question, then you know what your purpose is. If you don’t know the answer, that is fine. You can start digging until you find it. The way is simple, and you need to be honest when answering the following questions:
#1 What are You Doing at the Moment in Your Life?
Ask yourself this question and list down the things that you are doing currently in your daily life. Regardless of the situation, regardless you like it or not. List everything down. Don’t add any emotions to it. Don't mention the things you like, dislike, enjoy or hate.
It can help if your life your daily routine and try to make in a way that can be read as a story.
For example:
Ali is writing down his daily routine as follows:
I wake up at 7AM, get ready to work, go to work while listening to audiobooks, and work non-stop from 9am till 4:30pm with one 15 minutes coffee break. I then get back home at 5:30pm and get ready to study for my MBA course. I have dinner at 9PM then get ready for bed at 10:30pm after having a cup of green tea while reading a non-fiction book. The next day is the same, on the weekends, I go out with my friends and have fun.
#2 Are You Happy With the Way it is?
After listing your daily routine, are you happy with it? If you don’t have a purpose, then most likely, you are not. Having that in mind, if you acknowledge that you are not happy, you need to change that situation.
“Always remember that you deserve to be happy. No matter where you are, who you are, or what you do.”
List down the things that you like and dislike, the things that excite you, and the things that make you bored.
For Example:
Ali again is listing down his list:
I like:
- Waking up early.
- Morning Coffee.
- Meeting friends at work.
I dislike:
- Long work hours.
- Having to work on X Y and Z.
Excites me:
- Solving a problem at work.
- Reading.
- Weekends.
Bores me:
- Long working hours.
- Routine tasks.
#3 What Can You Change if You Could?
After pointing out things that you like and dislike. The things that make you excited and the things that bore you to death. You can start working on the purpose.
After listing the things according to the above categorization in point #2, you can see that Ali suffers from long working hours that he dislikes. And Ali is not complaining about waking up early. In fact, he likes it. Then the action here is obvious: to change his current job to one that can work fewer hours and maybe more creative jobs as he is excited by solving problems. He can look into his social circles and ask his friends about something that can make it happen.
If Ali did what he had to do and changed his job, he would probably be better. If he does not take this step and still working at his current job, he will be left with nothing but complaining and feeling bad. 15 years later — and yes, time flys — he would be the same person but with more grey hair.
#4 Keep Improving
After you have changed your day-to-day hiccups and improved your life, keep on improving. Don't just stop because you think that you reached your perfect life. There will never be a perfect life. There can only be a perfect time with a perfect mindset. This is why we see the misrible rich and the happy poor.
Getting your purpose can be a rough journey and can be, at the same time, the most important thing that you do for yourself. The moment you start thinking about improving yourself as a human being, you are more capable of sharing value with others, making their lives better, therefore bettering everyone’s life. If you asked me, this is the meaning of success.
